President Armacost has invited Krista Lynn Minnotte, a sociology department chair and professor, along with Anna Arnar, the curator of modern and contemporary art at the North Dakota Museum of Art (NDMOA), to participate in his latest video message to the campus community. Both Minnotte and Arnar are involved in organizing events for Women's History Month in March.
The University Council of Women+ and NDMOA will jointly host this year's Women's History Month Breakfast on Friday, February 28. The event will include a panel discussion featuring Monika Fabijanska, the curator of the "Women at War" exhibit currently displayed at NDMOA. According to Minnotte, the event is open to everyone. Interested individuals are encouraged to register online or contact UCW+ for further details.
During the video message, President Armacost inquired about the exhibit's presence at the museum. Arnar explained that "Women at War" showcases 12 contemporary Ukrainian women artists who offer a different perspective on war, history, and historical narratives. This exhibition was inspired by ongoing conflicts in Ukraine following Russia's invasion in 2022. It also explores regional history through diverse viewpoints including those of women, children, elderly individuals, and marginalized groups.
Arnar mentioned that she connected with Fabijanska while working on another project and eventually persuaded her to bring "Women at War" to both the Midwest and North Dakota.
