Minot State University, in collaboration with MSU Athletics and the Beaver football program, is partnering with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to host "Get in the Game," an initiative aimed at recruiting more blood stem cell donors. This event seeks to support patients requiring life-saving transplants.
The NMDP will conduct educational recruitment drives on February 13 at Minot State's campus. Faculty, staff, and students can participate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two locations: outside the Beaver Creek Café on the second floor of the Student Center and at the MSU Dome. The public is welcome to join an evening session from 6-7 p.m., also held at the MSU Dome.
Blood cancer diagnoses occur every four minutes in the United States. Many patients with conditions such as leukemia, lymphoma, or sickle cell disease depend on blood stem cell transplants for survival.
Participants will provide a cheek swab during the event to join the NMDP Registry. This registry matches potential donors with patients in need based on genetic compatibility.
The partnership between MSU football and NMDP aims to raise awareness and increase donor numbers. A volunteer training session for MSU staff and students is scheduled for February 12.
Further details are available through NMDP's website or by contacting Keesha Mason via email.
Minot State University is committed to providing quality education and engaging actively with its community through diverse academic opportunities and public service initiatives.
