A new photo exhibition and video showcase highlighting the experiences of immigrants in North Dakota will open at the University of North Dakota’s Memorial Union Gallery on Monday, Sept. 8. The project, called “From Many Places, One Community,” is a collaboration between students and faculty from UND’s Department of Communication.
The photo exhibit will run through Sept. 19, with an opening reception scheduled for noon on Sept. 8. UND President Andy Armacost and Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski are expected to speak at the event, underscoring the partnership between the university and the city.
On Constitution Day, Wednesday, Sept. 17, a video showcase featuring stories from fifteen new Americans representing fourteen countries will debut at 9 a.m. at the Memorial Union Social Stairs. The video seeks to honor their journeys and contributions to communities across North Dakota.
North Dakota First Lady Kjersti Armstrong, originally from Oslo, Norway, is anticipated to attend the event. She recorded her segment for the showcase earlier this year during a campus visit with Governor Kelly Armstrong.
The event will also be accessible online via Zoom.
