Belly laughter warmed the winter air as Lillie and her siblings took turns racing down the nearby hills on their wooden sleds.
Sides aching and cheeks bright red, the children would retreat to the warmth of the stove in the kitchen, where Mama Gibbs would have already laid out warm drinks and cookies for the picking. Oh, to be young in 1877!
