Eric Pietrzak's journey to his current role as an academic advisor at Minot State University has been marked by diverse experiences and a commitment to student success. Initially pursuing various fields of study, including philosophy and chemistry, Pietrzak found himself without direction in his early academic years.
Reflecting on this period, Pietrzak shared, "Oh goodness, where should I start? It feels like I’ve done a little bit of everything, though I’ve spent most of my time working in healthcare." His career path shifted after a realization during a late-night job led him back to education with newfound purpose.
Pietrzak discovered his passion for surgery but was forced to transition due to health issues. This unexpected turn led him into teaching. "I honestly hadn’t considered teaching before," he said when recalling the opportunity presented by his former program director.
His teaching journey began with high school students and evolved into higher education. Pietrzak described how memories from coaching debate teams and drum lines remained vivid compared to personal accolades: “The memories that had really stayed with me were from after my competing days."
After relocating to Minot with his wife Charlotte, who serves in the U.S. Air Force, Pietrzak embraced his role at Minot State University. He noted the fulfillment derived from guiding students through their educational journeys: “I love helping people develop the tools to rise to the goals they set for themselves.”
Pietrzak continues to pursue further understanding of student growth through doctoral studies in education while balancing family life. Reflecting on his transition from clinical practice, he concluded, “I sacrificed a lot when I left clinical practice and went into teaching...but I have a picture from commencement with my first graduating class...that’s probably the one where I knew without any doubt that I had made the right choice.”
Minot State University remains committed to excellence in education and community engagement.
