The University of North Dakota (UND) has appointed interim deans for its School of Graduate Studies and School of Law. The announcement was made by UND Provost Eric Link, who confirmed that formal searches for permanent deans are underway.

Soojung Kim, an associate professor and chair in the Department of Communication, began her role as interim dean of the School of Graduate Studies on May 5. Bradley Myers, the Randy H. Lee Professor of Law and associate dean for Academic Affairs & Administration, will take over as interim dean of the School of Law starting July 1.

Provost Link expressed confidence in Kim's leadership abilities: “Dr. Soojung Kim has been a highly regarded and accomplished leader at the University of North Dakota for a number of years,” he said. He highlighted her experience and dedication to student success, noting her contributions to the Department of Communication.

Kim expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to lead the School of Graduate Studies at UND," she stated. She will serve until a permanent dean is appointed, with the search process beginning in the fall.

Kim holds advanced degrees from the University of Minnesota and Korea University. Her work includes launching UND’s first online Ph.D. in Communication and other academic programs. She has also led research projects addressing public health challenges in North Dakota.

Bradley Myers was selected as interim dean for the School of Law due to his extensive experience at UND since 2001. “We are thrilled that Professor Myers will be stepping into the role,” said Link, citing Myers' prior leadership roles within the school.

Myers commented on ongoing initiatives under Dean Brian Pappas: “I look forward to joining with faculty and staff as we finalize work we have begun.” His tenure as interim dean will last until a permanent appointment is made by mid-October, with assistance from executive search firm Academic Search.

Myers' professional background includes serving as a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel and involvement with North Dakota’s Uniform Law Commission. His teaching focuses on Trusts & Estates law.

Both appointments reflect UND's commitment to continuity and leadership during this transitional period while permanent deans are sought for these key academic units.
