Emily Kaasa-Rice has been awarded the esteemed Orville Johnson Meritorious Service Award, recognizing her for her outstanding dedication, loyalty, and commitment to Mayville State University and her colleagues. This award is annually given to an employee who exemplifies these qualities.
A colleague who nominated Emily praised her ability to manage many tasks efficiently and her calmness under pressure. The nominator stated, "Emily went above and beyond by leading new initiatives that significantly improved processes within the admissions office. Her work ethic, leadership, and dedication to excellence truly represent the values of Mayville State University."
The award is named after Orville Johnson, a custodian at Mayville State from 1959 until his retirement in 1980. Johnson, who passed away in 1986, was honored by his family through a donation of his military service flag and $10,000 to the university. This donation funds the recognition of staff members.
As this year’s recipient, Emily will have her name inscribed on the Orville Johnson plaque located in the foyer of the Mayville State Campus Center. She also received a framed certificate and a $75 gift certificate for the Mayville State University Bookstore.
