Sixteen students from Mayville State University's Collegiate DECA chapter distinguished themselves at the International Career Development Conference in San Francisco, California, from April 5 to 8, 2025. This conference was a platform for 1,300 students worldwide to compete in business-related disciplines like marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Participants needed to qualify at a state competition in Fargo, North Dakota, held in February.
The Collegiate DECA chapter from Mayville State excelled, receiving the Chapter Leadership Passport Award. This coveted recognition was given to only 24 chapters among over 180 active chapters globally. Furthermore, 24 students from Mayville State were awarded the Individual Leadership Passport Award, marking the highest number of recipients from a single institution among more than 4,000 Collegiate DECA members worldwide.
“This is a testament to the dedication and talent of our students,” stated chapter co-advisor Rob Johnston.
The Leadership Passport Program challenges participants to engage in activities that develop both personal and professional skills, fostering academic preparation, community involvement, professional accountability, and leadership capabilities.
“MSU Collegiate DECA continues to empower its members to thrive as future leaders and innovators,” said Johnston.
In the competitive events, Mayville State achieved notable placements: Jack Bradner and Sam Preston secured 2nd place in the Stock Market Simulation, with Logan Maus and Connor Fields taking 4th. Sam Preston also achieved 5th place in Professional Sales. Ethan Schnerch and Brock Jungels finished in the Top 10 for Business to Business Marketing, while Connor Fields and Logan Maus ranked 11th in Travel & Tourism and Financial Accounting, respectively. Samantha Passa and Josh Dixon placed 11th in Marketing Communications, and Davis Bengson reached the Top 10 in Restaurant & Food Service Management (Exam).
“Our chapter extends its heartfelt gratitude for the generous financial contributions and unwavering encouragement provided to our organization,” Johnston expressed appreciation for the support received.
