Western Plains Opera is set to present Lionel Bart's musical "Oliver!" on April 11 and 12 at Minot State's Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. The performances, which start at 7 p.m., are a collaborative effort involving professional talent, community members, and resources from Minot State University.

The production is directed by Seth Honerman, with Abbie (Naze) Eads, a Minot State alumna from the class of 2015, conducting the orchestra. "This production of ‘Oliver!’ is really coming together in a way that reflects the skill and energy of the Minot community," said Eads. She noted that the cast includes nearly 40 performers ranging from grades four through twelve as well as MSU college students and adults. "We will also feature the gifted dancers from the Institute of Dance and Ballet Theater, led by Mr. Rinat Mouzafarov," she added.

Emerson Eads serves as artistic director for Western Plains Opera and director of choral activities at MSU. Angela Schnaible acts as children's chorusmaster for this production.

"Oliver!" tells the story of a young orphan navigating Victorian London while searching for love and belonging. The musical features memorable songs like "Consider Yourself" and "As Long As He Needs Me." Eads emphasized that both hardship and hope are central themes reflected in its music.

Kolton Jensen plays Oliver with other key roles filled by Archer Schnaible as Artful Dodger, Sara Garver as Bet, Shad Huber as Bill Sikes, Liz Chapman as Nancy, John Simonson as Fagin among others.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $35 for adults while children under 17 can attend for $10 each. Minot State students receive free admission with valid ID; military discounts are available at the door with active identification. Tickets can be purchased online or at the venue.

Support for this event comes from Arts Midwest GIG Fund supported by National Endowment for Arts along with contributions from North Dakota Council on Arts funded by state legislature alongside National Endowment funding.

Minot State University remains committed to providing excellent educational opportunities through rigorous academics combined with active learning experiences aimed at fostering public service within vibrant campus life settings.
