Minot State University’s Criminal Justice Club is hosting a speaker event featuring Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent John Armstrong. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Maria Kerzmann, an associate professor in criminal justice at Minot State University, expressed enthusiasm about the event: “We are excited to welcome HSI Agent Armstrong as our speaker. His extensive experience in both military service and federal law enforcement will provide valuable insights for our Criminal Justice students.”

Armstrong's career includes serving in the U.S. Army Infantry from 2009 to 2014, with assignments including deployment to Afghanistan in 2012. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Texas A&M University in 2018 and graduated from the Homeland Security Investigations Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) in October 2021.

Kerzmann highlighted Armstrong's career path as illustrative of diverse opportunities within the field: “His journey from the U.S. Army Infantry to HIS demonstrates the diverse career opportunities within the field.” She also noted that the event aims to inspire future professionals and educate the community on HSI's role in combating transnational crime.

After completing his training, Armstrong worked with HSI Los Angeles until June 2024 before moving to his current position with HSI Minot. The event offers POST Continuing Education Units for law enforcement professionals attending, totaling one and two credits.
