On February 26, 21 students from the University of North Dakota (UND) shared their internship, research, and study abroad experiences at the Memorial Union's Social Stairs. The event, "The Experience Spotlight: Real World Insights Beyond the Classroom," aimed to showcase how UND supports experiential learning opportunities with real-world applications.

Kayla Barral encouraged attendees to follow their passions, stating, “Don’t be afraid to pursue your own passions, no matter where they lead.” Olivia Lotysz spoke about her time in Spain and asked the audience, “Why not study abroad?” She highlighted the benefits of travel and cultural immersion.

Natalie Prentice and Erin Waletzko recounted their experiences studying and interning in Florence, Italy. Prentice emphasized the importance of meeting new people while abroad. Autumn Pulver described her solo travels in Galway, Ireland as a unique experience that helped her discover a love for solo travel.

Adleigh Handeland connected her studies in Norway with her hometown by visiting a church replica at the Norse Folk Museum. International students like Tanwa Iwayemi and Oluchukwu Sunday shared their journeys to Grand Forks. Sunday expressed gratitude for entrepreneurial opportunities at UND and advised others on learning American currency: “The best way to learn about currency is to go to the bank.”

Food played a significant role in these cultural exchanges. Olivia Lotysz noted that trying new foods is an exciting way to explore cultures. Adleigh Handeland enjoyed tasting chocolate-filled lefse in Norway.

Students also applied classroom knowledge in internships. Precious Dada discussed balancing work-life responsibilities during internships with Grand Forks City Planning and another at HIVE. She advised interns to ask questions and use connections wisely.

Research opportunities were another focus area for students like Nichole Dumlao who outlined a four-step process for college success involving self-understanding, building skills, seeking jobs actively, and targeting goals effectively.

Other participants shared insights from diverse locations: Erin Waletzko praised life lessons learned abroad; Autumn Pulver acknowledged challenges faced during foreign internships; Oluchukwu Sunday appreciated career support received; Sydney Maier recommended Thailand as a travel destination; Casia Steinhaus suggested resources for aspiring NASA interns; Liam Ghahreman cherished his volleyball experience in France.
