Minot State University is set to host the 2025 North Dakota Native American State Science and Engineering Fair on February 19. The event will take place at the Minot State Dome, with activities beginning at 9:30 a.m. Public viewing is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by judging from 1 to 3:30 p.m., and an awards ceremony at 4 p.m.
The fair's coordination is led by LaVon Jerome of Turtle Mountain Elementary Schools, while Annette Mennem, director of the MSU Native American Center, serves as the facilitator. This marks the third consecutive year that Minot State has hosted this annual event; previously, it was held in Bismarck until 2023. Last year's fair saw participation from eight schools, featuring 167 students and showcasing 110 projects.
LaVon Jerome emphasized the significance of the event by stating, “This is the 40th year of the Native American State Science and Engineering Fair.” He further noted that it provides "a wonderful opportunity for our students from across the state to get together and compete in an academic event." This year’s competition includes registrations from ten schools with a total of 147 projects.
Jerome expressed appreciation for Minot State University's continued support: “This is the third year that Minot State University has hosted the competition for us. We think this is a great opportunity for students to see what a university campus looks like and a great way for university students to give back to the youth of our great state.”
For those interested in serving as judges, contact information is provided for both Jerome and Mennem.
