Some 870 students were eligible to receive degrees at the University of North Dakota's Winter Commencement, held on December 20 at the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center. The ceremony began with a performance by Ella Henry, a vocal performance major, who sang "America the Beautiful."

University President Andy Armacost acknowledged various groups in his remarks, including administrators, faculty, international students, event staff, and military service members. Nicole Poolman, a UND graduate and former state senator, delivered the commencement address. Her speech is available on UND's YouTube page.

Poolman shared her experiences as an educator and politician. She emphasized that graduation is about the achievements of the students rather than the speaker. Reflecting on her career and mentors like Dan Sheridan from UND, she highlighted the importance of focusing on meaningful work rather than seeking personal importance.

She encouraged graduates to contribute positively to society regardless of their professions. Poolman's address aimed to inspire graduates to prioritize impactful work over self-importance.
