Maxwell Bray, a football player at Minot State University, is pursuing his passion for music alongside his athletic and academic commitments. Originally from Mesa, Arizona, Bray was drawn to Minot State after feeling an immediate connection during his campus visit. "I chose Minot State because I simply felt called to this place," he stated.
Bray is majoring in elementary education but has been passionate about music since receiving a guitar from his grandmother at the age of nine. He credits artists like Toby Mac, MercyMe, Kings Kaleidoscope, and OLY for shaping his musical style. "I want to be an artist that takes authentic situations and convictions of life and takes it to how I process best—through music," Bray explained.
Despite the demands of football, Bray finds time for music in a studio space where he can unwind and create. He sees parallels between football and music in terms of practice and communication: "Practice makes perfect... Without communication, collaboration or feedback, how will I grow into the most influential person I can be?"
Bray remains open to pursuing music as a career while emphasizing the importance of completing his degree. His faith plays a significant role in guiding his future: "Through a lot of prayer and a little bit of faith, I am trusting that the Lord will make a way for me."
His upcoming albums "Letters to My Friends" and "Letters to Myself" reflect his journey through both sports and spirituality. To fellow student-athletes with diverse interests, Bray advises taking time to explore passions while managing priorities effectively.
Minot State University supports students like Bray by providing an environment conducive to academic excellence and personal growth.
