Minot, N.D. – Minot State University, in collaboration with Minot Public Schools and Audubon Great Plains, is organizing the Plum River Native Prairie Dedication event on April 27 at 11 a.m. The dedication coincides with the university's 34th annual Spring Honor Dance and Powwow Celebration week.
The event will take place at the site of the Plum River Native Prairie, located at 501 Lincoln Avenue in Minot, which was formerly home to Erik Ramstad Middle School. The public is invited to attend and enjoy snacks and music.
“Your presence at this event would mean a great deal to us and would contribute to the success of this important initiative,” said Dan Conn, chair of Minot State’s Education and Inclusive Services. “We deeply appreciate the community’s support.”
The program will begin with the MSU Land Acknowledgement statement. Attendees will learn about Plum River Native Prairie through explanations covering timelines, no-till methods used, expectations for the project, and opportunities for involvement. Representatives from organizations such as Ward County Conservation District, Turtle Mountain Community Schools, MHA Nation, Audubon Great Plains, and NDSU Horticulture Extension agent for Ward County will be present to acknowledge their contributions.
Cultural elements include drum songs and star quilt presentations to elders. Ruth Plenty Sweet Grass She-Kills from Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College will give a keynote address.
