Minot State University's Native American Cultural Awareness Center is set to hold a silent auction at the Minot State Dome during the Spring Honor Dance and Powwow Celebration. The event will commence on Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m. and conclude on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m.

The auction features collections donated by a community member, including vintage jewelry, pottery, and sculptures primarily from southwest tribes. This donation aims to raise funds for the annual Spring Honor Dance & Powwow Celebration where graduates are honored each year.

The Native American Cultural Awareness Center has collaborated with MSU Professor of Art Bill Harbort’s ART 370: Professional Practices class. The students photographed the items, researched their fair market value (FMV), and organized the auction.

“The Native American Cultural Awareness Center will continue to work with MSU art majors to host another auction in 2025, 2026, and 2027, making this a real-life learning lab opportunity at Minot State University,” said Annette Mennem, director of the Native American Cultural Awareness Center.

A total of 42 items will be available for bidding including necklaces and earring sets. This collection began in the 1970s. Further details about the auction along with photos can be found on the Center's Facebook page.

Minot State University is committed to excellence in education through rigorous academic experiences and active community engagement.
