MSU Life, the student activities group at Minot State University, organizes over 100 events annually to entertain students. Recently, their efforts extended beyond the campus to The View, an assisted living facility in Minot.
Ady Jelleberg, a senior at Minot State and MSU Life member who also works part-time at The View, initiated this outreach by organizing Bingo Night during the fall semester. She said, “The leadership committee at MSU Life tries to do two outreach/volunteer activities in the community, and I work at the front desk as The View part time, and I knew we needed to get these two groups together.” She noted that both MSU students and residents of The View enjoy bingo.
Fourteen Minot State students participated in a bingo evening with 11 residents. Emmett Espino from MSU Life stated that it was a successful event: “The residents were very interactive with us and that made it so much fun,” he said.
Following the success of Bingo Night, MSU Life returned in March with various games such as Water Pong, UNO, and blackjack. Jelleberg emphasized the importance of community engagement: “Giving back to a community that supports you is very important,” she said.
Jelleberg highlighted relationship building as an essential aspect of MSU Life's mission: “It was great to bring two things I love the most here in Minot together,” she remarked. She expressed gratitude for being able to provide memorable experiences for both students and residents.
Minot State University remains committed to education and community involvement through active learning environments and public service initiatives.
