Doug Tiedman, a Senior Online Instructional Designer at Minot State University, has built a career around his passion for technology and education. Originally from Bismarck, Tiedman holds a Master of Science in Information Systems from Minot State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Minnesota State University Mankato. His journey began with service in the U.S. Air Force as an Airlift Aircraft Maintenance Specialist, where he also pursued higher education through the GI Bill.
Tiedman's role involves designing online courses and training materials to assist students and faculty with digital learning. He said, "My role as Senior Instructional Designer entails designing online courses, assisting in the development of entire courses or curriculums and creating training materials, such as tutorials for students in the use of our learning management system, Blackboard."
The office provides crucial support to students using Blackboard and related technologies. "Our office assists students with the use of Blackboard...we are here to help troubleshoot and fix the issue to help the students reach their educational goals," Tiedman explained.
Balancing professional responsibilities with family ties on campus is part of Tiedman's life at Minot State. "My wife is a nursing instructor, so I like to say I work two shifts for Minot State University," he remarked.
His dedication to helping students navigate technology brings him satisfaction. "Helping students utilize the technologies we have available...gives me a real sense of purpose," Tiedman stated.
Outside his professional duties, Tiedman enjoys hobbies such as playing violin with the Minot Symphony Orchestra and collecting Star Wars memorabilia. A long-time fan of Star Wars since seeing it in theaters in 1977, he shared, "Star Wars is life."
Tiedman's connection to Minot State extends beyond his current role; he previously designed the Beaver athletics logo during his time at an ad agency in Minot.
