Minot, N.D. — Dana Dannewitz holds the position of accounts payable coordinator at Minot State University (MSU), where she is responsible for auditing and processing payments to vendors and employees. "A generic summary would be that I audit and process payments to vendors and employees," Dannewitz explained. She audits vouchers, expense reports, purchasing card statements, and internal department billings against MSU and state policies.
Dannewitz transitioned into her role after spending five years as a stay-at-home mom. She described the accounts payable position as a great opportunity to start her career. "Being a mom will always be my number one job, but I felt I lacked an identity and decided it was time for me to start a career," she said.
Working in the MSU Business Office has been both engaging and fast-paced for Dannewitz. "We put the 'Busi' in Business Office! There are very few days that aren’t busy, which is ok by me," she noted. She also mentioned the support from her colleagues helped shape her professional journey after re-entering the workforce.
Dannewitz initially pursued pre-dental hygiene at MSU but later switched to business management due to academic challenges in anatomy courses. "I didn’t really have a backup plan, but I decided business management would give me a comprehensive education with skills that are always in demand," she recalled.
Choosing MSU was influenced by cost considerations and familiarity with the campus. Dannewitz's favorite student memory involved attending class with her mother, who was also studying business management at the time.
Reflecting on what makes MSU special, Dannewitz appreciates its community spirit and involvement in local events such as volunteering and participating in parades. "Most of all, the people I’ve encountered during my time at MSU are the most special," she shared.
Outside of work, Dannewitz enjoys fitness activities and spending time with her family, including her husband Dave and their two sons. The family engages in various hobbies such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, motocross, traveling when possible, and spending time at their family cabin.
Minot State University emphasizes excellence in education through rigorous academic experiences and community engagement within a vibrant campus life.
