Kelli Sem, a Minot State University alumna, has made significant contributions to the university community. She holds a Master of Science in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from MSU. Her dedication earned her the Outstanding Student of the Year Award in 2022 and the High-five Award in May 2024.

Sem's work at MSU spans five years, beginning as an academic coach in the Power Center and now serving as Access Services Coordinator. She focuses on providing students with necessary support for their success.

In an interview with Minot State’s University Communications, Sem shared insights into her motivation and experiences. "Growing up with a disability, my parents always so effortlessly adapted my world to me," she explained about her advocacy involvement. This personal experience drove her engagement with local advocacy groups during college.

As a student, Sem was active in various activities including participating in trips organized by the Power Center. Celebrating five years at MSU on July 8, she reflected on her journey from academic coaching to coordinating access services.

Sem chose Minot State for its personalized approach to education where professors knew students by name. Now as part of the staff, she works to ensure students receive respect and support.

Her previous experience using Access Services as a student influenced her career path. She emphasized enjoying helping students develop advocacy skills during her time at Power Center.

Among changes implemented under her leadership is streamlining note-taking processes using Microsoft Teams technology. This innovation empowers students directly rather than relying solely on peer notetakers.

Reflecting on favorite memories from both studying and working at MSU, Sem mentioned faculty interactions like Dr. Crackel’s chemistry jokes and Professor Frantsvog's law examples that made learning enjoyable alongside forming lasting friendships.

Outside work hours are spent crafting with Cricut machines or camping—activities reflecting personal interests beyond professional commitments.

She encourages any student needing classroom accommodations due to disabilities: "I encourage any student with a disability who needs classroom accommodations to come talk with me."

Minot State University remains committed to educational excellence through active learning environments fostering public service within vibrant campus life settings.
