Kimberly Tiedman has been a prominent figure in the nursing field for nearly 30 years. Her career, marked by numerous accolades, began at Bismarck State College and continued through Medcenter One College of Nursing and the University of Phoenix. In 2016, she transitioned to teaching at Minot State University (MSU), inspired by her parents' careers in education.
Tiedman has been recognized as Nurse Educator of the Year twice and received various awards including the Eagle Award from the Chamber of Commerce. Her teaching approach is rooted in sharing real-life experiences with students. "I enjoy sharing my real-life experience with my students, and I make sure to not only share the successes but also the failures so they can learn from me," she said.
Her involvement at MSU extends beyond teaching; she serves as a co-faculty advisor for the MSU Chapter of the Nursing Student Association and holds a state advisor role. "These advisor roles allow me to get to know the students better and to provide advice when needed," Tiedman explained.
Tiedman's passion for nursing was sparked during high school after witnessing a nurse's bond with a young patient. This experience led her to pursue nursing over other healthcare paths. Reflecting on her transition from practice to education, she stated, "The love of my job and the desire to use my years of knowledge in teaching the next generation of nurses is what really drove me to make the change."
In her classes, Tiedman employs diverse teaching methods to cater to different learning styles. She describes her classroom as an active learning environment that includes games like BINGO and Jeopardy for material review.
Outside work, family time is paramount for Tiedman. She enjoys running with her dog Oakley and attending sporting events during vacations.
Minot State University is committed to excellence in education through rigorous academic experiences and community engagement.
