Kylee Cook, a music education major from Minot State University, is preparing to embark on her professional journey with a passion for the stage. Cook's ambition is not confined to any particular type of performance. "I don’t really want to limit myself in what I can and can’t do or limit myself with a preference of one area or another," she said. Her ultimate goal is to perform in various capacities, whether it be singing solos, acting, or playing in an ensemble.
Cook's enthusiasm for performing dates back to her childhood in Scobey, Montana. "I wanted to be a pop star growing up, and that probably hasn’t changed," she stated. Her high school years solidified her desire to pursue music and live theater as a career path.
Choosing Minot State University was strategic for Cook as she aims to build a foundation for her future endeavors. "Making a life and a living as a performer is one of the hardest things to do," Cook acknowledged. She plans on furthering her education by pursuing a master's degree in theatre, which she believes will enhance her career prospects.
Cook values both performing and teaching equally. Her educational experiences at Perkett Elementary and Ramstad Middle School have reinforced this balance. "When the kids’ faces light up to music, and you get to be a part of that, it’s a heart-filling moment," she expressed.
Coming from a musical family, Cook began participating in Scobey's annual variety show "The Dirty Shame Show" from first grade. Her father’s involvement in jazz bands has been influential throughout her life.
Despite initial stage fright during her early years, Cook has overcome these challenges through perseverance and confidence-building experiences. She recalled standing behind the curtain during "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" without fear last year.
Minot State University continues its commitment to providing rigorous academic experiences alongside community engagement opportunities.
