Taryn Bennett, a collegiate softball player at Minot State University (MSU), reflects on her time at the institution as she prepares to graduate with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. Originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Bennett plans to pursue further education in physical therapy.
"Minot State gave me the chance to live out being a college athlete and pursue an amazing degree," she stated.
Bennett moved north to MSU for education and the opportunity to play college-level softball. She expressed gratitude for the experience: "Softball is what brought me to MSU, and I have never been more grateful! I chose Minot State because as soon as you stepped on campus, from facility to coaches to members of the athletic department, you could feel how they cared about you beyond being an athlete."
During her tenure at MSU, Bennett was actively involved in student-athlete activities. She served on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years and was president during her final year. "SAAC allowed me to help give student-athletes a voice in the athletic department," she said.
Her studies in exercise science were influenced by her passion for movement and health. "I chose exercise science and rehabilitation because I knew I wanted to do something with exercise," Bennett explained. Her advisor, Beth Marschner, played a significant role in her academic journey.
On the field, Bennett started 99 games over four years and led her team with 25 RBIs in 2024. Her contributions helped MSU reach the semifinals of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament.
Looking ahead, Bennett intends to obtain a doctorate in physical therapy while cherishing her memories at MSU. "My time at MSU is something I will always be grateful for," she said.
Minot State University is committed to providing rigorous academic experiences and active learning environments as part of its dedication to education excellence.
