January is National Radon Action Awareness Month
Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive gas that forms naturally when radioactive metals break down in rocks, soil and groundwater. People are exposed to radon from breathing Radon in air that comes through cracks and gaps in buildings and homes; this can cause cancer.
Take action: The only way to know if your home has radon is to test for it. Grand Forks Public Health offers free radon test kits. Radon can be reduced with a mitigation system.
