A few weeks ago, Grand Forks County swore in three recently elected County Commissioners and they began their terms. Commissioner Bob Rost (left) is serving his second term while Commissioners Kimberly Hagen (middle) and Mark Rustad (right) are serving their first terms. Get to know a bit about them below!
Commissioner Rost, who was also elected Commission Chair, has been a public servant of Grand Forks County for decades. He with Grand Forks County's Sheriff's Office in 1979 and worked his way up until he was elected Sheriff in 2010; he held the position until 2018 when he ran for County Commissioner instead. In addition to his work with the commission, Rost is well-known as J. Nelson Kelly Elementary School's long-time crossing guard and for serving daily lunches at the senior center.
Commissioner Hagen is a stay-at-home parent and previously worked as a financial planner. She is actively involved in the Grand Forks community beyond her service on the Commission. Hagen has worked on special projects with the City of Grand Forks in the past and dedicates time volunteering through her church. Especially important to her, Hagen does a lot of work with her church's food pantry and spends each Christmas Eve assisting with their Community Christmas Eve Meal.
Commissioner Rustad is well-versed in the world of building management and oversees the University of North Dakota's Student Housing as a customer business manager for Johnson Controls. In addition to his full-time job, Rustad is a business owner and the owner/operator of MJM properties. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending most of his free time at the lake and with his family
