People are protected best from severe COVID-19 illness when they stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines, which includes getting all recommended boosters when eligible. People age 6 months and older are eligible for a vaccine. People age 5 years and older should get a booster if eligible. People age 50 and older and some people 12 and older who are immunocompromised should get a second booster.
