Grand Forks Public Health Department issued the following announcement.
The ND Safety Council is coming to Grand Forks and offering their “Alive At 25 Defensive Driving Course” at a dramatically reduced rate. They have partnered with State Farm Insurance and are taking the course on the road across the state in an attempt to touch as many of our teenage drivers as possible.
Do you have a teen driver in the family? If you do, I know you have invested a good chunk of change in vehicle for them to drive, the cost of insuring that additional teen driver, and hopefully not, but potentially a claim if they are involved in an accident. Teenagers love to hang out and drive around with their friends, but for a 16-year-old driver the likelihood of having a fatal accident increases nearly 40 percent when one non-adult passenger is present, nearly 90 percent with two and nearly 300 percent with three or more young riders. Recognizing that driver-education courses by themselves are not a complete preparation for beginning drivers, this course is designed to educate teens about the hazards they experience and that driving is a privilege.
The NDSC’s Alive at 25 Defensive Driving Course can help prepare your teen drivers for the responsibility that accompanies the privilege of driving. The Alive at 25 course “focuses on behavior, judgment, decision making and consequences, and provides tools for making positive choices.”
You DO NOT need to be a State Farm policy holder to a have your teen driver attend.
If you know a teen driver and would like to give them the opportunity to attend the class in Grand Forks on July 31st? It will be held at Safe Kids Grand Forks Headquarters, 607 Demers Ave. East Grand Forks MN , from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
