Minot State University has announced that its first-day freshman class for Fall 2025 is the largest in 14 years, with 415 new freshmen enrolling. This figure marks a 15% increase compared to the previous year.

Transfer student enrollment also grew by 4%, reaching 273 students, which is the highest fall transfer number at Minot State in five years. When combined with new graduate students, the university reported that its total number of new students is the highest since 2020.

“The first day of classes is a wonderful time of year on campus, and welcoming our largest freshman class since 2011 is a testament to the education and opportunities we are creating for students at MSU,” said Minot State President Dr. Steven Shirley. “We are excited to welcome all of our new students – the freshmen, new transfer students, and new graduate students – along with welcoming back all of our returning students for another productive and fulfilling academic year.”

The university also noted an increase in Canadian student enrollment, up by nearly 9% to reach a total of 184 Canadian students. The Hometown Pride Scholarship program continues to have an impact locally, as Minot State recorded a rise of over 4% in Ward County student enrollment.

Total first-day enrollment for Fall 2025 stands at 2,627 students. The university said that these numbers may change as final enrollment figures will be submitted to the North Dakota University System after the fourth week of classes.
